Mercedes R-Class gets engine reinforcement

Well once again the automotive rule is proven. The vehicle that is not desirable in some markets, easily finds the customers on the other part of the world. Mercedes R-Class is yet another proof for this. Even though its production in the US ended in 2012, and the world thought, that the R-Class came to its end, Mercedes-Benz had other plans. This vehicle is still available in China. In fact, new model year will bring changes and improvements for the R-Class.

Mercedes seems to have major demand for the R-Class in China, since this German giant is continuing the production of this model exclusively for this market. The automaker will continue the production for at least 7 more years, and new engines are expected to at least keep the high demand for the R-Class, if not to increase it. Production of this crossover will be moved this summer from Alabama to contract manufacturer AM General in Indiana.

So let’s see what Chinese people will get from this engine refreshment. The base R 320 4Matic will be powered by a 3.0-liter V6 unit with 272 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. With new engine R 320 4Matic will accelerate from 0 to 60 in about 7.8 seconds.

Mercedes R-Class second engine reinforcement is a 3.0-liter V6 also, but with higher output rates. It will be able to deliver 333 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque, and will be placed under the hood of the R 400.

    Awesome car needs a lot of updating, could do with an AMG R63 version, they need to sort out the noise in the rear as it is too loud…sat nav and dash is out of date for a high end family car,it needs a hell of a lot of power too.
