2017 Volkswagen Golf R 400

German brand launched the Concept model of its Golf R 400 at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show. Even though the concept preview was just a year ago, Volkswagen is developing its prototype quickly, and the model’s production version will be launched sooner than we anticipated. According to latest spy shots, this model will start its life cycle as a 2017 Volkswagen Golf R 400. Debut of the model is expected sometime during the next year.

Design details that differentiate the 2017 Volkswagen Golf R 400 from the regular Golf R include few things. First, it has pumped fenders and larger, wider wheels than the regular model. Beside wheels, rear spoiler is roof-mounted and larger. If we look at the vehicle overall, we will notice wider setup and lower body. These two indicate harder suspension on the model, which is kinda expected.

The Concept version of the model was packed with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Its R 400 moniker came from the metric hp of the engine which is 400. However the engine delivers 395 regular hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. Transmission is a 6-speed DSG dual-clutch which is paired with 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. Another possibility for the 2017 Volkswagen Golf R 400 engine is a VW Group’s 2.5-liter turbo five-cylinder engine, which is placed under the hood of the TT RS model.

Since there is no official word from the VW Company, it is hard to assume what exactly will be done on the 2017 Volkswagen Golf R 400. If the production model mimics the Concept then, most certainly this vehicle will be “one of a kind”.  Good news is that we won’t have to wait for a lot longer to see this, since the model’s debut is expected during the mid-2016, and the release should be by the ned of the same year.
