First noticeable change that will follow the platform switch is increased interior space. Seating system will also be rearranged in order to provide better functionality and more comfort.

Beside comfort that new platform provides, 2017 BMW X3 will be stiffer than the previous model, which will ensure improved safety and better handling. BMW predicts that new X3 will be around 200 pounds lighter than its predecessor, which will further influence the fuel economy improvement.

With rearranged seating functionality new X3 will also have better usage of its space. Seats will be leaner and lighter, while second-row seats will have fold flat option. As expected from this world-wide popular brand, 2017 BMW X3 will be equipped with some of the bests high-tech and luxury features available. Some of novelties in that department include bigger sunroof, LED headlamps, as well as X-line and M Sport packages.

2017 BMW X3 engine range

Engines that will be packed under the hood of X3 depend on the markets, so there is still no reliable info regarding individual markets. Known powertrains include more economical 2.0-liter turbodiesel Inline-4 power units and a new 3.0-liter turbodiesel Inline-6. Engines that will, probably, be offered for the US market will mainly be petrol units, while BMW could decide to offer one diesel option.

New range of more economical engines will also have more horsepower and low-end torque. But, beside economical options, BMW wouldn’t be what it is, if it doesn’t offer high-performance options for its faithful followers. High-power units will be placed under the hood of M Performance division. Twin-turbo 3.0-liter Inline-6 with 422 horsepower will be one of those options. Hybrid variant of the model will also be available. It is a plug-in hybrid variant that combines 2.0-liter petrol engine with 95-horsepower electric motor, while the expected electric-only range is around 25 miles.
