2016 Volvo XC90

2016 Volvo XC90 will be redesigned for this model year. This mid-size luxury crossover SUV was originally presented back in 2002 as a model for 2003. 2016 model year brings generation switch, which we expected much earlier. Today Volvo’s SUV will be built on a new platform, and will feature major redesign. Its R-Design trim will be released shortly after the reveal of the base 2016 Volvo XC90.

As we mentioned before, 2016 XC90 will be built on a new platform, called Scalable Product Architecture, which will result in various changes. Its size will be bigger, but this SUV will have reduced weight. Great looking exterior combines greatly with upgraded interior.

Safety features and measures are on its top level, which is no surprise considering that we talk about Volvo. Its standard safety features include pedestrian and cyclist detection (day/night), cross-traffic alert when backing up, collision warning with automatic brakes, rear crash detection, Volvo Dynamic Steering, park sensors, adaptive headlights, blind spot detection, power-operated and hands-free tailgate, a 360-degree camera system with parking aids, shock absorber between the seat and rails and an air suspension.

Inside the 2016 Volvo XC90 is packed with luxury features such as  trim that combines leather, real wood and metal, 19-speaker Bowers & Wilkins stereo system, Sensus center touch-screen, a digital instrument cluster, head-up display for the driver, diamond-cut controls, Orrefors crystal shifter.

Depending on the market new 2016 Volvo XC90 comes with different range of engines. Base engine is a T6 with 316 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. This engine comes mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive as standard.

Second possibility for the US market is a T5 engine. Slightly weaker engine with 250 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque could replace the base engine, and move it to optional. Volvo could also offer front-wheel drive, but this info is not confirmed, so we can’t call it official.

2016 Volvo XC90 R-Design will come with its own power units, which will be able to produce up to 400 horsepower.

Great looking, safe as possible and luxurious 2016 Volvo XC90 will be one to beat. Its closest rivals are Acura MDX, Buick Enclave, Lexus GX 460 and Mercedes-Benz GL-Class.

2016 Volvo XC90 price and release

Volvo will start the production of its XC90 SUV in January 2015, and it will be released on sale in April. Base price for the 2016 Volvo XC90 is $48,900. However Volvo decided to engrave “First Edition” into 1927 first produced copies of the model which will be available at launch. The number of the copies is symbolic and it reflects the year Volvo was founded. Beside the inscription these models will have special design cues such as Nappa-leather seats in Amber, Onyx Black paint, specially designed 21-inch wheels… etc. and will have a price tag of $65 900.
