2016 Toyota Fortuner

Long awaited 2016 Toyota Fortuner is finally here. Japanese giant reveled its redesigned Fortuner for Australian and Thai markets. The model comes highly upgraded and improved, with changes on exterior and interior, as well as performance innovations. Like it was the case with previous model, 2016 Toyota Fortuner has enough room to accommodate up to 7 passengers in its three row seats.

2016 Toyota Fortuner changes and features

Although Fortuner is based on Toyota’s HiLux pickup, two models do not share as many similarities, as people might think. Exterior and interior of both models have their own style and layout, although the connection between them is obvious.

Rugged appearance of this SUV instantly hints on its main purpose – off-road drive. Toyota did manage to pull some great designing tricks in order to make the model appealing for everyone. Great front fascia, combined with narrow swept-back headlights, gives the Fortuner modern and aggressive look.

New Fortuner will be offered in three trims, including GX, GXL and Crusade. All of them are highly equipped, as we expected from Toyota. Base trim GX comes with two-zone climate control (front and rear), big touchscreen display with Toyota Link connectivity, rearview camera, 7 airbags, hill start, traction and stability control, and 17-inch wheels. The GXL adds downhill assist, roof rails, rear parking sensors and keyless start. Top trim, Crusade, delivers powered tailgate, LED lighting and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Under the hood of the 2016 Toyota Fortuner is placed direct-injected 2.8 liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine. It is capable to deliver 175 hp (130 kW) and 332 lb-ft of torque (450 Nm). Toyota doesn’t offer any other engine option besides this one, but the power unit can be paired with two transmissions. Gearbox choices include 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox.

When it comes to drivetrain, Toyota enabled permanent four-wheel-drive, with high and low range settings. For off-road terrains, Fortuner comes equipped with rear differential lock. Japanese automaker also made various adjustments on the new 2016 Fortuner in order to adjust the model to local weather conditions, and terrains such as mud and sand.

2016 Toyota Fortuner rivals

Fortuner will compete among some of the best-selling UTEs in the Ausie land. Among them are Mitsubishi Challenger, Ford Everest, Holden Colorado 7 and Isuzu MU-X.
