Extensive changes made for previous model year are the main reason why we can’t expect anything major from 2016 Subaru Outback. New model year will bring only few minor changes, such as new exterior color, or new feature, and perhaps not even that.

Mainly carried-over model, 2016 Subaru Outback has a lot to offer. Subaru somehow managed to combine great design of the interior, high-tech features, modern exterior, standard all-wheel drive with great performance, high fuel efficiency and great base price. Like its predecessor, 2016 Subaru Outback is offered in four trim levels including 2.5i, 2.5i Premium, 2.5i Limited and 3.6R Limited.

Standard features on base trim include full power accessories, cruise control, climate control, a height-adjustable driver seat, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, 60/40-split-folding rear seats, a 6.2-inch touchscreen, a rearview camera, Bluetooth connectivity (phone and audio), and a 4-speaker sound system with smartphone integration, HD radio, a CD player and an iPod /USB audio interface.

2016 Subaru Outback will have the same engine line-up as its predecessors. Based on trim level names, it’s easy to see what you can expect, regarding engine. Engine upgrades and additions or replacements are expected during 2017 model year, which will bring a lot of news for most of Subaru’s models.

Base engine is a 2.5-liter inline-4 with 175 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque. It is paired with all-wheel drive and CVT. Hill descent control and hill start assist are also standard on all models. 2016 Outback with base engine is capable to deliver 28 mpg combined, 25 mpg in the city and 33 on the highway.

Optional engine is a 3.6-liter inline-6 that generates 256 hp and 247 lb-ft of torque, while drivetrain and transmission are the same as for I4. EPA estimated fuel economy with this engine is rated at 22 mpg combined, 20 mpg in the city and 27 on the highway.

Last year improvements influenced a lot already good position of Outback on the car market. Its toughest rivals, Audi Allroad and Volvo XC70 will hardly beat the price of 2016 Subaru Outback, but will deliver highest level of luxury. In this close competitive ring we will also find Toyota Venza, Honda CR-V as well as Kia Sorento.

It still early for Subaru to reveal any specs regarding its 2016 Outback, so there is no any price info yet. However, one thing we can be sure of, that is that its price range will stay the same, or, at best, slightly increased.  It is expected that 2016 Subaru Outback starting price begins around $25 000. Low level of changes will also have impact on release date, so we can expect 2016 Subaru Outback to appear on the market during the first half of 2015.
