2016 Scion FRS changes and body styles

The mid-cycle facelift 2016 Scion FRS goes through doesn’t bring many differences in model’s design. On the other hand, this model year will bring changes that are more important for the FRS owners than design – its weight and construction. Built on the same architecture as before, FRS creators decided to use light-weighted materials for new model. This will influence the fuel economy of the vehicle, while it is expected to improve its aerodynamics as well.

Exterior and interior upgrades will be subtle. Revised front end, including reshaped grill and headlights, as well as new rear end details will complete the picture of the upcoming FRS. The most exciting news are related to its body styles. So far the FRS model is known only in Coupe variant, but, starting with 2016 model year, the FRS will be available in sedan and convertible forms. When it comes to dimensions of the new models, sedan will be around 20 inches longer than the Coupe, and higher for around 4 inches.

Inside the new FRS we can expect better materials overall. More soft-touch surfaces and high-quality materials for upholstery will make a huge difference. Not much will be changed in design of its cabin. It will mainly be designed in minimalistic style. Features will be upgraded, but it is still unknown whether there will be added some new ones.

However, the output rates are expected to be higher than the current ones. Some sources reveal that Scion plans to boost that energy with additional turbocharger, or even superchargers. 2016 Scion FRS sedan engine specs are still unavailable. It is expected that sedan will have output of approximately 300 horsepower, however, which engine will give it that power, remains mystery.

Same platform means same drivetrain. Rear wheel drive is the standard choice, as well as 6-speed manual transmission, while 6-speed automatic continues to be available.
