2016 Nissan Frontier Release, redesign, news

2016 Nissan Frontier will be refreshed for this model year. Its changes will not be major, or huge, but will bring couple of refreshments which would make Frontier appeal more modern and attractive. However, we do not expect any changes reading the performance of this mid-size pick-up truck, since the current engine has served pretty good. Although Nissan constantly improves its Frontier, this truck still misses some major redesign, since its current generation lasts for a while now.

2016 Nissan Frontier exterior and interior changes

When it comes to exterior of the 2016 Nissan Frontier we expect some enhancements, and upgrades. Front grill and fascia could be changed slightly, but enough to provide overall more modern look for upcoming Frontier. Since it is a truck, which are primarily built and purchased for their functionality, appearance doesn’t play any major role, but it is certainly an advantage, compared to rivals.

Inside, we can expect some new features, while materials could also be switched for better quality ones. It is available in two body shapes, as crew cab and extended cab, and in five trims, including S, SV, Desert Runner, Pro-4X and SL. With these options, Nissan make sure to cover almost every need pick-up buyers may have.

2016 Nissan Frontier performance and mpg

Perhaps the main reason why Frontier manages to keep its position on the market without any essential styling reparations is its performance. It offers one of the best fuel economy rates, while offering, at the same time, just enough power we might expect from a truck.

Base engine is carried over from its predecessor, and it is a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder unit, which delivers up to 152 horsepower and 171 pound-feet of torque. Customers can choose either 5-speed manual (standard) or automatic, while rear-wheel drive is only option.

Optional engine is a 4.0-liter V6 which is rated at 261 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque. Standard transmission choice is yet again manual, but with one gear more (6-speed) and 5-speed automatic is available as optional (or standard, which depends on trim level). Drivetrain options are rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.

Fuel economy depends on various terms. With manual transmission and 4-cylinder engine 2016 Frontier will deliver 19/23/21 mpg city/hwy/combined and 17/23/19 mpg with automatic.

V6 engine paired with AWD and manual transmission delivers 16/21/18 mpg, and with RWD 16/22/19 mpg city/hwy/combined. Automatic and RWD equipped Frontiers are rated at 16/22/18 and automatic and 4WD combination returns 15/21/17 mpg city/hwy/combined.

2016 Nissan Frontier rivals

Speaking of rivals, Frontier does have a tough crowd to beat. Its primary opponents are GMC Canyon, Chevrolet Colorado and Toyota Tacoma, which are all rated really well. However, Japanese manufacturer doesn’t have plans to become the ultimate shopper’s choice, and it current position on the market is pretty good.

2016 Nissan Frontier price and release
