2016 Mazda CX-5

2016 Mazda CX-5 will feature a facelift, due to the fact that it is currently in the middle of its cycle. Innovations won’t bring many surprises since Mazda will change only few things for its 2016 CX-5. The prototype of the revised CX-5 was spotted on the streets with very little camouflage on, which indicated that majority of design changes will be made on the front end.

2016 Mazda CX-5 exterior and interior changes

As we indicated earlier, there will not be any significant nor major changes for 2016 model year. Mazda decided to refresh its CX-5 with, probably, slightly revised front bumpers and headlight graphics. Grill could also suffer some alterations, and turn signals are now relocated, and placed on the side mirror covers. Taillight graphic will also be changed, but other than these couple of news, 2016 Mazda CX-5 will carry over style and design of its predecessors.

Originally presented back in 2011, as a 2013 model, Mazda CX-5 achieved big success. It is rated as second best-seller for Mazda, due to its great combination of comfort and performance wrapped into great-looking and modern design. Inside 2016 Mazda CX-5 we don’t expect anything major, but some feature expansion. The biggest news regarding the features is latest Mazda Connect interface, which will be available for 2016 model year.

2016 Mazda CX-5 performance and mileage

2016 Mazda’s CX-5 will probably carry on its engines. Improvements regarding performance will, perhaps include several boosters, and suspension tunes, but the engine line-up won’t be changed.

Base engine is a 2.0-liter inline-4 with 155 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque. Those numbers could be slightly bigger, but not drastically. Front-wheel-drive and six-speed manual transmission are standard for 2016 model year too. You will be able to opt for a six speed automatic transmission, but if you decide to choose all-wheel-drive, you will have to go higher with the engine, too, since Mazda pairs its AWD with stronger power unit only.

Optional engine for 2016 CX-5 lower trims, and standard for upper trim levels, is a 2.5-liter inline-4 with an output of 184 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque. It comes mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission and either front- or all-wheel drive.

Fuel economy rates are 26/32/29 mpg city/hwy/combined for models with 2.0-liter power unit and automatic gearbox and 26/35/29 mpg with manual. Combination of a 2.5-liter inline-4 with 6-speed automatic gearbox and FWD is rated at 25/32/27 mpg and 24/30/26 mpg city/hwy/combined with AWD. We believe that fuel economy will be unchanged for 2016 Mazda CX-5, since there are no significant changes that might influence fuel consumption.
