Perhaps the biggest news when it comes to 2016 Lexus RX is that this mid-size luxury crossover SUV could become a three row crossover. This news were somewhat confirmed, since Lexus’s chief engineer Kei-Ichi Nishiyama talked about big demand for this kind of SUVs on the US market.

2016 Lexus RX presents the 4th-generation of the RX series. The RX name stands for “Radiant Crossover”, and this series of luxury crossovers includes RX 350, RX F Sport and RX 450h. New generation could bring numerous upgrades for the series, from design and features to performance. As we indicated at the beginning Lexus could even include third row seats, either as optional, or as standard configuration.

Base model from the line-up is RX350 was pronounced as a top choice SUV couple of times, and it is no wonder, having in mind that from its start Lexus offered high quality at the best price.

2016 Lexus’s RX will continue to share the platform with the Toyota Highlander, but during its production Lexus will increase its usage of the lightweight materials. 2016 Lexus RX will not feature engine change, at least there is no any info indicating this. Built in the same plant in Cambridge, Ontario, as its predecessors, Lexus will include the RX F Sport 8-speed automatic transmission throughout the range.

Base engine will be a 3.5-liter V6 with 270 horsepower and 248 lb-ft of torque. 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive will remain standard, while 8-speed automatic and all-wheel drive will be available as optional.

2016 RX F Sport will be packed with the same engine, and exclusively 8-speed automatic gearbox and Active Torque Control all-wheel drive.

Hybrid variant , RX 450h will combine a 3.5-liter gasoline V6 engine with electric motors to create a 295 horsepower output. Both front- and all-wheel drive are available. Standard transmission should be transferred from 2015 model, a CVT, while it remains unclear whether the 8-speed automatic will be available for 2016 RX hybrid.

Porsche Cayenne and Infiniti QX60 are top two rivals for 2016 Lexus RX. Cayenne’s advantages are sporty handling and responsive steering, while QX60 offers more standard than Lexus’s RX 350. Beside these two, some of its rivals are also Lincoln MKX, Cadillac SRX, Volvo XC60 and Nissan Murano.

We can expect new RX to appear on the market during the fall 2015, while its big reveal could happen even earlier. 2016 Lexus RX price will feature an increase, so expect it to start around $42,000.
