2016 Kia Sportage

2016 Kia Sportage will come refreshed, while its big redesign and next generation is expected to be launched for 2017 model year. This time, Kia decided to make a couple of changes, in order to keep its Sportage competitive and up-to-date. On the other hand, generation change for next year will bring different engines, new design and probably a hybrid variant.

Exterior of the 2016 Kia Sportage will have small alterations, but nothing significant. Few more exterior colors might be added into the color palette, and front bumpers will be slightly revised, but other than this, we cannot expect much from latest Sportage. The truth is that Kia officials stated that they are preparing a new generation, and that it won’t come for 2016 model year, but one or even two years later.

Popular small crossover SUV will continue to offer three trim levels: LX, EX and SX. Changes will include some features shuffling but nothing beyond that. Standard features found on the base trim of the latest Kia Sportage include 17-inch alloy wheels, keyless access, climate and cruise control, a height-adjustable driver seat, 60/40-split folding and reclining rear seats, rear privacy glass, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, Bluetooth connectivity (phone and audio) as well as audio system with 6 speakers, CD player, satellite radio, AUX input and an iPod/USB audio interface.

As mentioned, there is no big news for the upcoming model year, so 2016 Kia Sportage will carry over its engines. Depending on trims, Sportage SUV will be available with one out of completely 2 offered engines.

Base engine is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 182 hp and 177 pound-feet of torque, found under the hood of LX and EX models.  Second engine is a stronger, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 260 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. The stronger power unit is found under the hood of SX model.

Both engines are mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive as standard. Ll wheel drive continues to be available as optional.

Fuel economy for 2016 Sportage wll stay the same as for the previous model, which means that it will be able to deliver 21/28/24 mpg city/hwy/combined with FWD and 19/26/22 mpg with AWD. Packed with stronger power unit, the 2016 Kia Sportage SX returns 20/26/23 mpg city/hwy/combined with FWD and 19/24/21 mpg with AWD.

This category has tough crowd. Some of its closest rivals are Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4, which are slighty bigger, in case you need little more space than Sportage has to offer.  On the other hand you have Ford Escape, Hyundai Tucson and Mazda CX-5 which are most similar, both in size and performances to 2016 Kia Sportage

Considering low level of upgrades and changes, price should remain the same as for 2015 version, around $22,000 for the base, LX trim. Release is expected late next year, while some sources indicate that we might have to wait for early 2016 in order to see the completely finished version of the 2016 Sportage.
