2016 Jaguar XJ Redesign and coupe rumors

Although rumors about two body styles of the 2016 Jaguar XJ could be found everywhere on web, seems like this story is just what we called it – a rumor. 2016 model year will mark the beginning of the new generation of the Jaguar’s XJ sedan, which was originally presented back in 2011, and since it then, it went through facelift for 2014 model year. Official info is that the coupe version of the popular car will not be presented, and British car producer will continue with its well-known body style – sedan.

Second generation of the popular model will not include coupe variant, but Jaguar plans to continue to offer its 2016 Jaguar XJ with two length wheelbase – shorter and longer. These differences in wheelbase also include different names of its trims, as well as the model itself. XJ stands for the regular wheelbase model, while XJL (L-long) stands for the one with longer wheelbase. When asked about two body styles of the 2016 XJ, Ian Callum, Jaguar design director said: “I can’t see us doing two body styles. The cost would be enormous and the message inconsistent. You have to believe in what you produce and to do two body styles would undermine that.”

Still couples of things about upcoming next-gen XJ are unclear, since Jaguar’s officials seem to be having a debate about the design direction. Whether the new XJ will have more conservative styling, or it will continue down the road it’s now headed, it’s left to see, since there is still no relevant data that could confirm or refute the story.

Base XJ comes in three trim levels, including Base, Supercharged and XJR, while XJL comes available in Portfolio, Supercharged and XJR trims. Interior changes are somewhat known. New 2016 Jaguar XJ will have elegant inside with great materials and luxury features. Still early ot give precise info, but we will provide it as soon as it becomes available.

2016 Jaguar XJ Interior

2016 Jaguar XJ engine

It’s unlikely that 2016 Jaguar XJ will change anything under its hood. Its base engine will probably continue to be a 3.0-liter V6 with an output of 340 hp and 332 pound-feet of torque. It will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive, while all-wheel drive will be offered as optional.

Optional 5.0-liter V8 engine will still come with two different outputs, which depend on trim. Under the hood of XJ Supercharged, V8 will deliver up to 470 hp and 424 lb-ft of torque, while paired with XJR it delivers 550 hp and 502 lb-ft of torque.

2016 Jaguar XJ rivals

No wonder Jaguar’s officials aim for more conservative style since XJ’s competitors are mostly Germans such as Audi A8, BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Although XJ is specific, its sales rates are not as good as its rivals, so this new style direction may be the reality of the upcoming gen.

2016 Jaguar XJ price and release

New generation will not be launched soon. In fact, we can expect it late 2015, or perhaps even early on 2016. Price will be slightly different than the price tag of the current model, which starts around $74,000, and the 2016 Jaguar XJ price tag shouldn’t be more than $75,000-$76,000, for its base variant.
