2016 model year will mark the beginning of the new generation for Hyundai’s popular SUV. 2016 Hyundai ix35, or Tucson, as it is known in the US, will be fully redesigned. The level of changes made on the new model was noticeable even through the heavy camouflage, which it had on, during its testing. Based on those spy shots, some exterior changes, as well as some interior ones are easier to notice.

The inspiration for the design of the model came from the Santa Fe’s design. Its overall look is sportier than before, while the biggest change comes on the front end. Instantly noticeable is the new grill, which is clean-cutted, and great looking. The LED lighting technology will also be incorporated into the latest SUV. Redesigned front end will be complemented with new wheel design and rear end re-modeling.

Inside, we can expect few things. Although the 2016 Hyundai ix35 will be available in same five trims as before, including S, SE, SE Nav, Premium and Premium Panorama, features on those trim levels will not be the same as before. Enhanced level of equipment, as well as better materials overall are part of the new model year refresh. Dash will also be revised, and offer simpler look, and easier navigation.

Since the new model year will bring a lot of news, and major redesign for the 2016 Hyundai ix35, we can also expect some changes under the hood. Petrol engine is a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder, while diesel units include 1.7 and 2.0 diesel engines. This model was introduces with Hyundai’s new fuel-cell technology for last model year, 2015, and experts do expect from South Korean manufacturer to offer this version for 2016 model year too.

Improvements regarding 2016 ix35’s performance will include few boosters in technologies. It will include suspension, handling and fuel economy, while power of the engines will be additionally enhanced with chargers.  Front wheel drive is still standard, and all-wheel drive is available as optional. Customers will also have the same choice of gearboxes which include 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission.

When it comes to competition of the ix35 SUV, there are some models that instantly come to our mind. First in line is definitely Kia Sportage, since two models have a lot in common. Its other rivals are Nissan Qashqai, Skoda Yeti and Ford Kuga, which all achieved some great sale results in previous years.

The debut of the popular SUV is expected late this year, 2015, while its pricing specs are not revealed yet. However, based on several parameters, including previous model’s price and price of its rivals, we don’t expect to start before $22,000.
