Under the hood, Ford will probably carry over its 3.5-liter V6 engine, which will be slightly upgraded in order to provide better mileage rate. Second engine choice could be EcoBoost 2.7-liter V6 (325 horsepower and 375-lb-ft of torque), found in 2015 Ford F-150 or turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder (285 horse power and 305 lb-ft of torque). One of these engines should come as a replacement for the current EcoBoost 2.0-liter I4. Transmission choices will probably be carried over too, so expect 6-speed automatic to be the standard gearbox choice. As far as the drivetrain 2016 Ford Explorer will, most likely, offer the same options – standard front- and optional all-wheel drive.
