2016 Chevrolet Malibu

2016 Chevrolet Malibu was recently caught during testing, covered in heavy camouflage. Even with the coverage on, changes made on this sedan are visible. Although Chevy just recently started its 8 generation, and made a complete makeover of the famous Malibu back in 2013, this American producer decided to do yet another makeover. Lower sales rates than expected and complaints about lack of rear-seat legroom encouraged famous brand officials to make a difference.

Viewing the photos of the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu it is easy to notice that new Malibu is larger, or, better to say, longer than before. 2016 Malibu prototype was spotted tested along side with current model, so these changes could not go unnoticed. Mid-size sedan also featured new, larger platform, which gave results providing more interior space. Body lines of the 2016 Malibu are more refined, and its overall look is more elegant. Lower hood and front end made a big difference in its appearance. According to images, recognizable two-row grill will be carried over, while headlights will be slightly redesigned.

2016 Chevrolet Malibu performance upgrades

2016 Chevrolet Malibu will be built on GM’s Epsilon II platform, which is a transition from smaller one, used for previous version. The engines will remain the same, at least the base one. 2.5-liter I4 Ecotec engine with 197 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque, will continue to be offered as standard. 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder will be another engine choice, and will deliver 259 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Performance changes will, most likely, include transmission upgrade. According to some sources 2016 Chevrolet Malibu’s engine will be paired with 8-speed transmission and front-wheel drive, while 9-speed gearbox could become available further down the line.

The hybrid variant of this model is also possibility, but it will not be released immediately, with the 2016 Malibu’s line-up. New small, turbocharged engines from GM are also one of the possible changes. These engines, if so, will be available under the hood of the more ECO-minded model in the line-up, which could appear along with other 2016 Malibu trims.
