2016 BMW X5 will not bring anything spectacular, at least in its base trim. Recent redesign of the popular SUV is the main reason for its low level of changes prepared for new model year. However, Bavarian car producer didn’t leave things so simple. 2016 BMW X5 will bring couple of news. Its sportier variant “M” will be presented soon, with changes we couldn’t see coming. German giant managed to refresh its already refreshed model, with reveal of its performance-oriented trims.

Exterior will mainly stay the same. We can expect some additional exterior paint colors, and some minor refreshment on front end details, such as bumpers and some minor styling cues. With beginning of the third generation of the model, X5 was third best-selling vehicle from BMW’s line-up. Luxury SUV class is known by J segment in Europe forced the producer to offer its 2016 BMW X5 in various trims depending on market it is aimed for.

2016 model year will not bring changes regarding its powertrains, so we can still see the same engines as for previous model. 3.0-liter inline-6 is base engine capable to deliver 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque.

Second engine available is a 4.4-liter V8, also found under the hood of M variant, delivers 445 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque.

Third engine option is diesel unit, 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-6 with 255 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque.

All engines will be paired to either all- or rear-wheel drive, and an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The best fuel economy delivers the diesel unit with 23/31 mpg rates city/highway, than 3.0-liter I-6 which returns approximately 19/27 mpg regardless of the drive system, and powerful V8 delivers 17/22 mpg and could be combined only with all-wheel drive.

Price of the 2016 X5 will vary from $53,000 up to $70,000, which is pretty much the same price tag as for its predecessor. Release of the popular 2016 BMW X5 M will be this month at the LA Auto Show, while standard production version will be released during the summer 2015, or even closer to its end.
