2016 BMW 3-Series was recently spotted on the streets during testing, and both sedan and wagon variants will go through mid-cycle facelift. As visible on spy shots, 2016 3-Series is wearing camouflage on front and rear end, which indicates that intensity of changes, will not be as big. This is no surprise what so ever, since Germans usually make small refreshments with their exterior during facelifts.

As noticeable from spy shots, majority of exterior changes will be made on front and rear end. On the front end, it will have redesigned bumpers and headlights upgrade. Rear end will also suffer some refreshment, which will change slightly the appearance of the upcoming 3-Series.

Inside 2016 BMW 3-Series we will notice new trim, while other changes will include features upgrade. Most important and most interesting news are the news about enhanced infotainment system.

Both sedan and wagon variant will be available, while changes will be practically the same for both body styles. Beside some trim naming changes, sedan will come in Sedans come in 320i, 328i (could be replaced with a 330i) 328d, 335i (potentially replaced with a 340i model) and ActiveHybrid 3 variants. Wagon comes in 328i xDrive and 328d xDrive trims, although 328i could be replaced with a 330i badge, just like the sedan.

Unlike exterior there is one thing which is always modern and one step above competitors, when it comes to BMW. It is its performance. Although changes in styling may be small and unnoticeable, its performance is always thoroughly upgraded. That is the case with 2016 BMW 3-Series too.

New engines from BMW’s line-up will be placed under the hood of 2016 BMW 3-series. Those new additions include two new engines, both four- and six-cylinder. The engines will be based on modular design, and will include 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit and 3.0-liter six-cylinder. Both will be additionally enhanced with fuel-injection, VVT and turbocharging technologies. 328i and 335i models will probably be replaced with a 330i and 340i naming.

Beside stunning new performance, BMW thought carefully about fuel economy of its 3-Series, which is the reason why it offered a hybrid variant. Plug-in Hybrid variant will offer a combined output of 245 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, which will come from a combination of four-cylinder engine and electric motor.

Beside plug-in hybrid, BMW will keep its current diesel engine, a 2.0-liter diesel four-cylinder, rated at 180 hp and a robust 280 lb-ft of torque, which also delivers high efficiency rates. Rear and all wheel drive will continue to be drivetrain options for 2016 model year.

Release date of the 2016 BMW 3-Series is expected late on next year, while its sales should start early on 2016. Pricing specs will be published later on, as we approach to the actual release of facelifted 3-Series. These changes, according to our sources, will not cause any major increase, and the base price for 2016 sedan is expected to be around $34,000 while wagon should have base price tag of $43,000. Hybrid variant though should be priced at $51,000.
