2016 Audi R8 V10, review, price

New 2016 Audi R8 comes fully redesigned. Changes made on the model are not dramatic, as we can see from some other automakers, but they surely follow the modern paths in the industry, and show the progress the model has made through the years. Audi presented its R8 for the first time back in 2006, and for a decade, this 2-seat sports car took a special place on the market. It was, and still is one of the most desirable models among car enthusiasts. Second generation, which starts with the 2016 Audi R8 tends to make the same impact on the market, by making the R8 ultimate choice in its class.

Based only on pics, it may seem like new 2016 Audi R8 doesn’t bring much excitment, but that’s not hte right perspective. Althugh visible changes are practicaly in line with a facelift,  Audi did change much more then a simple grille or headight shape. The platform which will underpin the next generation is modified into Modular Sport System (MSS), the one that underpins the popular Lamborghini Huracán. For Audi’s R8, this structure will be modified in order to deliver more interior space and, ultimately, more comfort for its passengers. This platform modernization also brought changes in R8’s weight. New model has less lost around 100 pounds. Its size is also different. 2016 Audi R8 is now 174.0 inches long, 76.4 inches wide, and 48.8 inches high. Compared to previous generation, new model lost some of its length and height, but gained some in its width.

Exterior changes include more sculpted body lines, and changes on front and rear end. They are additionally accentuated with modern details, such as LED lights, performance tires and chrome touches. On the inside, German automaker changed much more. The first thing you will notice is repositioning of the multifunctional touchscreen which was previously placed in on the dash center, but, now, it is set in front of the driver. Materials, upgraded features and some other design touches sum up the interior changes.

When it comes to sports cars people are usually more interesed in its performance specs, rather than anything else. Germans managed to make their vehciles recognizeable for their quality performance, and Audi is no exception. New generation brings a twist in R8’s life. Its V8 enigne is out, and new models will only come with V10s, or two version of one V10 engine, to be precise. Besdie these, new generation will also bring all-electric e-tron version, which is Audi’s way to stay on track, since the popularity of hybrids in automotive world is in rise.

Like we mentioned, already knwon 5.2-liter V-10 engine comes in its regluar version, and as V10 plus, with more power. Regular V10 version delivers  540 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque, while V20 Plus pumps out 610 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque. Since the platform is not changed, but upgraded, new 2016 Audi R8 will continue to be all-wheel drive car, while the power will be transmitted to wheels via DL800 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Even though new 2016 Audi R8 comes in high luxury, its rivals don’t fall behind. Among them is the Porsche 911, which will be facelifted for upcoming 2016 MY. Then the Mercedes-AMG GT / GT S and last, but not least Jaguar F-type R. These are not all, of course, but are the most relevant and the closest to Audi’s R8.

2016 Audi R8 Price and Release date

2016 Audi R8 was presented at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, in its full glory. However, the sale of the model should start these days in Europe, and little bit later, by the end of this year, in US. Price tags of the latest R8 are not released yet, but starting price is estimated to be around $180,000, considering the price the model has in Europe.
