Long awaited new generation of this popular SUV will begin with this model year. 2016 Audi Q5 will be the first model presented with changes, which came as consequence of the redesign. Although German car producers often do not bring major makeovers, and generation switch can often be compared with mid-cycle facelifts of some other manufacturers, this time Audi made a step forward. As first in line of upcoming changes is the plant transition. From Ingolstadt, Germany, the production of the upcoming Q5 will be moved to San Jose Chiapa in Mexico.

2016 Audi Q5 changes

The decision to move the production of 2016 Audi Q5 to Mexico caused some opposing thoughts in automotive world. Although it was mainly made for economical reasons, experts warn that it could influence the quality of the new SUV. However, we believe that Germans will make sure to level-up their quality control in order to deliver the vehicle with standards that this brand is known for.

New model year and new generation bring a new platform as well. Volkswagen group light-weighted MLB-evo architecture will be the base upon which redesigned Q5 will be built on. This change will, supposedly, cause 220 pounds lower weight, compared with current model. Exterior changes are multiple, but basic body shape will remain the same. Its front grill will be changed, too. Vertical bars will be turned horizontally, while the overall shape of the grill will remain unchanged. Headlights will also be narrower than before. When it comes to lighting technology we can expect MatrixBeam LED lights, which are already incorporated in latest Audi’s models.

Interior will be similarly designed as for the Audi TT. This design represents the new direction Audi aims to take in its future vehicles. Majority of controls is placed on TFT display, which results in practical and simple usage without unnecessary buttons.
