2016 Audi A6 Changes, price, release, pics

2016 Audi A6 was presented already at this year LA Auto Show. This popular sedan went through its mid-cycle facelift, and came with interesting changes. However the exterior of the 2016 Audi A6 may seem the same as before at first sight, since exterior changes are minor, and mainly affect the details of the vehicle. This doesn’t come as a surprise, since European, and especially German auto producers are known for their not-so-radical exterior facelifts. On the other hand, the performance of the vehicle as well as tech upgrades, are almost always part of their refresh or redesign, which is the case this time too.

Audi offers full line-up of its A6 sedan, which includes A6 Avant, A6 Allroad, S6 and RS 6 Avant variants. All variants, however, will be refreshed for 2016 model year. Subtle exterior changes include slightly reshaped body lines, which are now sharper than before. The grill is also altered but minimally, in order to give it more stern appearance. The design of the headlights and the exhaust pipe is also revised, in order to contribute to overall more aggressive styling, but not significantly, or eye-catching.

2016 Audi A6 will now have dynamic LED turn indicators, and will offer Audi’s Matrix LED headlight technology as optional.

Inside, changes are more noticeable, and include both visual and functional upgrades. 2016 A6’s buyers will have at their disposal new interior trim, with new color scheme, and, more importantly, upgraded infotainment system with faster processor. New infotainment can be paired with Audi’s MMI navigation plus or MMI touch system, while German producer also offer high-speed LTE data transfer with its Audi connect system. Safety features as well as driver’s aid systems are also upgraded, while on some variants steel springs are replaced with fiber springs, which offer more quality and shed overall weight of the vehicle by up to 10 pounds.

When it comes to engine choice, Audi offers couple of combinations, depending on markets. Known fact is that 2016 Audi A6 will be available with a 1.8-liter TFSI engine for European market, but whether this power unit will be the base one for US market, or upgraded 2.0-liter TFSI unit (more likely) will continue to be base choice in this area. Both 3.0-liter TDI and TFSI engines will continue to be available with some upgrades, while Audi prepared a lot of news when it comes to gearboxes.

New A6 will not be available with a CVT, but, instead it will offer three transmission choices which include 6-speed manual and to automatic options including 7-speed S-tronic and 8-speed tiptronic. Offer, once again, depends on which part of the world you live in, so US customers will be able to choose between 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (standard) and 8-speed automatic, which will probably be mated to a TDI engine.

S6 and RS 6 Avant versions will come equipped with a 4.0-liter TFSI unit, with outputs of either 450 horsepower (S6) or 560 horsepower (RS 6 Avant).
