2015 Volvo S60 Polestar is one of total two Volvo vehicles that came from joint venture of Swedish car producer and its racing-partner Polestar. Beside S60 sedan, which is “normally’ available in three trim levels, T5, T6 and T6 R-design, Polestar also partnered with Volvo in creating special edition of V60 wagon, named V60 Polestar.

The cooperation between Polestar and Volvo lasts from 1996, and first vehicle that came from this partnership was the C30 hatchback. Every special edition those companies make, is Limited edition, so for U.S. market, they decided to launch only 120 copies of both 2015 Volvo S60 Polestar and 2015 Volvo V60 Polestar. Polestar used S60 T6 and V60 T6 R-Design as base for its upgrade, and work from that.

Design differences between regular S60 and Polestar edition include couple of tweaks which will help aerodynamics of the vehicle. New rear spoiler and diffuser are added, while on the front end, you will notice redesigned splitters. For the U.S. market exterior of the 2015 Volvo S60 Polestar will be painted in two colors: Rebel Blue, Polestar signature shade, or in Black Sapphire.

Inside, everything is in luxury style. Contrast stitching and leather-wrapped steering wheel are part of unique interior design of Polestar editions. Nubuck inlays in the doors and center armrest and sport pedals are also part of distinctive design.

2015 Volvo S60 Polestar’s performance is really what this car is about. Polestar started its work on already tuned version of a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine with 325 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque, found under the hood of T6 R-design version. The power boos of the engine was enhanced with new Borg Warner twin-scroll turbo and intercooler. Polestar engineers also adjusted the ECU (Engine Control Unit). This work on the engine resulted in increased power, which is now 350 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. This might not seem much, but producers claim that the 2015 Volvo S60 Polestar offers much better overall performance and improved abilities. The engine is mated to a specially-tuned 6-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive only.

2015 S60 Polestar is able to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in stunning 4.7 seconds, and it features new brakes – with ventilated discs measuring 14.6 inches up front and 11.8 inches at rear. Improved abilities are additionally upgraded with 80% more rigid springs and upraised Ohlins shock absorbers.

Fuel economy is rated at 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, which is great considering the performance 2015 S60 Polestar delivers.

Its competitors are mainly from Germany. The closest rivals are Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the BMW 335i and the Audi S4 which are all highly equipped and deliver high-performance, but still lack slightly behind 2015 S60 Polestar. From non-European producers, Volvo S60 Polestar could face the Lexus IS250, the Cadillac ATS and the Infiniti G37.

2015 Volvo S60 Polestar had its debut at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show, and was released couple of months later, in June. Its starting price is $60 225.
