2015 Chevrolet Equinox: Concept

2015 Chevrolet Equinox continues on the same platform, GM’s Theta, on which it has been built since the beginning of its production. Its biggest advantages are its comfort and spaciousness that make the car look like made for families with children. Beside the leg room and comfortable seating area, new Equinox offers a lot of trunk space, exactly 31.4 cubic feet, and that number doubles when you fold down rear seats to 63.7 cubic feet. One of the few new things, added for 2015 model year, include change of color scheme. Chevy Equinox will no longer be available in Ashen Gray Metallic and Atlantis Blue Metallic shades, but will be presented in two new colors: Sea Grass Metallic and Blue Velvet Metallic. Standard features on 2015 version of Chevy Equinox include Chevrolet’s MyLink infotainment system connected to a seven-inch touchscreen, while new features added to standard package include OnStar with 4G LTE and Wi-Fi capability. Trim levels remain unchanged, so there are still three choices including LS, LT and LTZ variant.

Equinox comes available with two engine choices, one standard and one stronger, optional. Standard for all trims is a 2.4-liter direct-injection four-cylinder “Ecotec” that produces 182 horsepower and 172 lb-ft of torque. Engine comes paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Both front and all wheel drive are available. Standard FWD’s fuel economy is rated at 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the hwy, while optional AWD models spent little bit more, and are rated at 20/29 mpg city/hwy. Same transmission is mated to an optional 3.6-liter V6 engine with 301 horsepower and 272 lb-ft of torque. Model with front-wheel drive consumption ratings are 17/24 mpg, while all-wheel-drive versions numbers are little bit smaller, and are 16/23 mpg city/hwy.

Due t its size, Equinox competitors are both compact and mid-size crossovers. Perhaps the closest “enemies” considering different parameters are Subaru Forester, Ford Edge and Hyundai Santa Fe.
